The documents you will be asked for
| Degree certificate | Or a provisional certificate where the degree has not yet been issued. |
|---|---|
| Marksheets | All years or semesters of the qualifying degree. |
| Photo identity | Aadhaar, passport, driving licence or voter ID. |
| Photographs | Recent, to the specification the university states. |
| Category certificate | Where you are claiming a relaxation. |
| Migration or transfer certificate | Some universities ask; many do not. |
| Work experience proof | Only where the programme requires experience. |
Requirements differ between universities and between sessions, so treat this as the shape of the list and the university's own checklist as authoritative.
Two rules that matter more than the list
Never hand over originals without a written acknowledgement. Submit attested copies wherever the university permits it. Where an original must be submitted, get a dated receipt naming the document. Withdrawal, transfer and any later dispute all become far simpler when you can prove what you gave and when.
Keep your own complete set. Scan everything before you submit it. You will need the same documents for an education loan, for scholarship claims, and for employment verification later — and reassembling them is slow.
Where admissions actually get held up
- A name mismatch between certificates and identity documents. This is by far the most common, and it is worth checking before you apply.
- A result not yet declared. Ask what the provisional-admission clause allows and note the deadline for the final marksheet.
- Attestation. Confirm who is accepted as an attesting authority before you queue for one.
- A missing migration certificate from a previous university, which can take weeks to obtain.
All four are foreseeable and all four cost weeks if discovered late. Ten minutes with the university's checklist before you apply removes most of them.
Frequently Asked Questions
What documents are needed for a distance MBA admission?
Typically the degree or provisional certificate, all marksheets of the qualifying degree, photo identity, photographs, and a category certificate where a relaxation is claimed. Some universities also ask for a migration certificate.
Do I need to submit original certificates?
Submit attested copies wherever the university permits. Where an original must be submitted, get a dated written acknowledgement naming the document — that receipt is what makes withdrawal or any later dispute straightforward.
Can I apply before my final result is declared?
Many programmes allow provisional admission subject to submitting the final marksheet by a stated date. Read the clause and note the deadline.
What if my name is spelled differently on two documents?
Raise it with the university before you apply. Name mismatches between certificates and identity documents are the most common cause of delayed admissions and are much easier to resolve in advance.
Is a migration certificate always required?
No — some universities ask for one and many do not. Where it is required it can take weeks to obtain from your previous university, so check early.
