Forgone salary, not tuition

The largest cost of a full-time MBA is not the fee. Two years out of work on a ₹6 lakh package is ₹12 lakh of income you do not earn, on top of tuition. A mid-range programme at ₹12 lakh therefore costs closer to ₹24 lakh in real terms — plus two years of seniority you do not accrue.

Against that, a distance route taken while employed costs the fee alone. The full working is on the fees page.

Choosing

Which one is actually right

Take the regular MBA if

  • You are early in your career and changing industry, function or country
  • You are admitted somewhere whose placement record clears that cost
  • The network is the thing you are buying

Take the distance MBA if

  • You are employed and progressing, and need the qualification rather than a reset
  • A written HR or recruitment rule is blocking your next band
  • You cannot absorb two years without income

Buy a full-time MBA to change your life. Buy a distance MBA to improve it.

Frequently asked

Is a distance MBA equal to a regular MBA?

As a degree, yes, when the university is UGC-recognised and holds DEB entitlement for the mode and session. What differs is placement support and peer network, not the standing of the certificate.

Do employers prefer a regular MBA?

For campus-recruitment roles, yes, because that is how they hire. For experienced hiring and internal promotion, the awarding institution and your track record matter more than the mode.

Which is better value?

For someone already employed and progressing, the distance route is dramatically better value once forgone salary is counted. For a career reset early on, a strong full-time programme can justify its cost.

Autonomous institutes

Two autonomous institutes worth knowing

If you decide the autonomous route fits your career better than a university degree, these are the two established names in the space — both operating independently for over 30 years, on the same model the IIMs used until 2017.

IICT — Indian Institute of Commerce and Trade

Autonomous management institute, 30+ years. Distance and online management programmes across 30+ specialisations, admission by profile review rather than entrance test. Total fee ₹32,350. iict.mba · iict.in

IIPM — Indian Institute of Pharmaceutical Marketing
